So if you don't know, I have made it my goal to get my grocery budget down to $50.00 per week. Yes, I make a couple trips here and there through out the week to get staples like eggs, milk, bread. The major shopping is done usually at Publix and for under $50.00! I have a family of 5 and so far it has been going very well. How do I do it, you ask?

To start I wait until thursday when the weekly circular is online. I then view it on line. The online circular has a shopping list feature that rocks!! You view the item in the circular, say yes I need that, and click "add". At the end of viewing and adding, I then print out my list. The lists is divided up into categories like, dairy, frozen etc. It also tells you what sale that item falls under. (You can also add the quanity you are going to buy-- Keeps me insanely organized when I am at the store!) Then in the next column it will tell you the price per item if it isn't BOGO. I then take my list to my blog sites that I check weekly for coupon match -ups. I print out my coupons. Some sites usually need you to download a coupon printer. Should be fine. I haven't had any issues with virus or such.

TIP: Most coupon printers will enable you to print two coupons as a max. You just have to hit the back arrow and resend the information. Also, any coupon that comes in a PDF form can be printed numerous times!

I usually use Cassie's site and those sites participating in BeCentsable's Grocery Gathering! (Southern Savers, Fiddlededee) You can use the Becentsable website for other stores as well. They are ALL listed there! Follow the same rules and go for it!

After I do those match-ups, I then go to my coupon stash to see what else will match up. Then I wait... I wait until Sunday when I get the Sunday ads. There are usually 2-4 more coupons in there that I can use for my week's trip. Then on Monday, I am off to Publix to do my magic!! I stock up on items we always use. I buy as many as I have coupons for when they are BOGO. (The first week you start, you will go over budget to get the "stash" going, then you won't need to buy that item later!) One week I will stock up on extras so that the next week they have a good meat sale, I stock up and use my budget on meat!

All it takes is about 20 minutes to do your match-ups. If I can do it... you can. I used to hate coupons and think it was a waste of my time. I went in and got what I wanted and got out. I am now realizing that it isn't that hard and time to clip is time to save $. Especially in this economy! My hubby works hard for his money, and I can help by saving as much as I can!!
REMEMBER: If you buy 2 items that are B1G1 make sure you use 2 coupons to get the best deal. Publix accepts competitors coupons (you can stack with a manufacturers coupon and a Publix coupon too) . You can use a store coupon ( Food Lion, Target, Harveys, Albertsons etc.) and a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item! Double your fun!!

Just as an example... here is this past week's trip breakdown:

4 boxes of GM cereal : bogo and coupons
2 cans Planters peanuts: bogo and coupons
2 boxes Gourmet frozen pretzels: bogo and coupons
2 packages Klondike bars: bogo and coupons
2 boxes banquet sausage: bogo
2 bags rosetto stuffed pasta: bogo and coupons
8 boxes of BC fruit snacks : bogo and coupons
2 boxes nabisco single serve snacks: bogo and coupons
2 boxes of strawberries: sale
3 boxes of blueberries: sale
2 bottles Ocean spray juice: bogo and coupons
2 bottles of Huggies baby wash: bogo and coupons

Total retail: $119.85
Total OOP: $ 47.14
Savings of : $ 72.71 WOO HOO!!

Huggies baby wash wasn't exactly a grocery item, but it was cheap!! I didn't need any meats because I got it all last week!! This week was all extras and snacks!! Next week will be more meat!!

My most important tips for being successful!
1. Stick to the list
2. be flexible in what you eat
3. DON"T BUY IT UNLESS YOU HAVE A COUPON & IT IS ON SALE!
4. STOCKPILE
5. If you are in doubt about a coupon, check the stores coupon policy! Publix's is here!

Just thought you might enjoy some video that I took this weekend! We were sitting in the family room waiting for my hubby's Aunt and Uncle to come and visit. "Monkey" loves the dog!
(sorry it is so dark)

Then after our company arrived, we visited and took a moment to capture "monkey" meeting her great aunt and great uncle for the first time!!

Sunday was day two of his celebration. It was supposed to be last Sunday, but he was sick, so we had to post-pone till this Sunday! The outing of his choice was the Science Center with his "Best Bud"! I woke up Sunday morning sick as a dog, so I sent the kids off with Dad (camera in hand) for the day. I was bummed that I couldn't be there. My boy was so sweet and cried when I told him I wasn't going to be able to go. I told him he would have more fun without me tagging along feeling miserable!! They had a blast!!

They picked up his friend, went to the science center, ate lunch at McDonalds, and then played a bit in the park!! He loved his birthdays!! Now if I can only talk the diva into doing the same thing!! :o) Enjoy!!

So Saturday we woke up and did some things around the house and then headed off to the Magic Kingdom after lunch. My hubby was working on a premiere screening of the new Disney movie "Tinker Bell"!! So naturally, we were invited to the private screening! Since the screening wasn't until 6:00, we decided to make it a fun afternoon and went to the park early. This was my "monkey's" first trip to Disney! (BTW... the movie is great! It comes out on DVD at the end of OCT. It will be one of 4 so don't miss it!)

After the screening, the producer, writer, and director of the film came out and talked a bit about the show and then signed autographs. The kids got their pic taken with all the fairies too. They had a really great day!! Enjoy the slideshow!

I don't know about you, but Christmas time gets a little tricky on the bank account. I love little and fun ways you can save money!! Well here is a little frugal and crafty fun that me and my kids had a few Christmases ago!

We were in the process of moving into a new home that wasn't ready yet. So we were living in an apartment. All our stuff was in storage including all my Christmas decorations and ornaments for the tree. I was pretty bummed. I am a complete Christmas addict! We got our tree, and I racked my brain for what kind of ornaments we could put on it. My kids love to do crafts, so I went to Michaels and bought a stack of red, green, white, gold, silver, foam sheets!

I also bought a box a ornament hangers! I then dug out my Christmas cookie -cutter set. We were off. The kids traced out the Christmas shapes on the foam sheets. They colored them, sprinkled them with glitter, put their own personal touches on them. We then cut them out, put a hanger in them and had a great tree full of handmade ornaments. The kids remember this Christmas very fondly. Even though it was in an apartment with none of our stuff, we made it unique, fun, and frugal!! I still have most of the ornaments, and we add them to the tree each year to remember that unique Christmas!!

The Roomba image from: techdigestuk
I have to start out by saying how much I LOVE my roomba!! I got my roomba as a birthday gift a year ago! Since then we have had a glorious love affair!! Just last night I gave the baby a bath AND cleaned my floors at the same time!! I have found that having a dog and a baby, contributes to the daily need to clean my floors. My first floor is all wood laminate and tile, so you can see the dust and dog hair that piles up. I was getting really tired of cleaning it everyday. Then the answer to my prayers!! MY ROOMBA!!
I am sure you have seen the commercials! It actually does what it says! It comes with two infared stations that are called "virtual walls" that you can set a boundary for it to go. I do one room at a time to get the maximum cleaning done. You can purchase more "walls" if you need to. It goes right along the walls and the sweeping brush gets in the corners as it goes by. I have tested the cleanliness by dry dusting the floors after the roomba has been unleashed and it is amazing! You really have to see it action to get the full effect!
I do have thin weave accent carpets that the roomba goes up over with no problem. My shag carpet, however, is MT fugi and can't be climbed!! The roomba hits it like a wall and just turns around and goes the other way! The only CON to the Roomba is that it is set with multiple sensors to do it's job. One sensor to find the "wall", one to sense dirt, and one to find the real walls or things in it's way. You need to keep the roomba and it's sensors clean or it won't work correctly!
I have the base model that you can purchase in most retail stores. (or use the website for information and buy it from wholesale or ebay stores!) At their website, they have demo's and all the information that you need. They also have ALL the roombas available. They have several models for the floors. The one that would be extra nice is called the "scheduler". It is stationed on a dock that is programmed for a specific time of day to go off. When that time clicks on, off the roomba goes. It does it's job and then when the timer on the roomba is done, it goes back and docks itself back up! They also have the SCOOBA! Yup, it washes your floors too!!
They also have one for the gutters of your house, one for the pool , and one for industrial (garages)! IRobot corp. is always changing and evolving with new and clever things.
I realize that we as a society are constantly looking for ways to cut corners and be "lazy"! The roomba really fits into that thinking, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I see it as more time and opportunity to spend with my family and getting other things that mean more to me done!!!
I was not paid for this review!

Destined to be best friends!!
Notice the tongue!!
The dog is EVERYWHERE the baby is!!

This is pretty exciting to me. New, different, and weird to think of at first but worth it!! During this election season with stem cell research being a topic of interest, there is a study out that gives us a new way we can preserve our own stem cells and save them for , God forbid, any future need. According to the BBC online and many other sources, (just look it up in your search engine) baby teeth can be a source for stem cells. I was prompted to research this a bit more when my pediatrician told me yesterday that when the kid's baby teeth fall out, freeze them immediately. Save the teeth in the freezer to preserve any cells. The "gold" is in the pulp of the baby tooth! I believe that wisdom teeth in adults can have the same cells too.

I am all for any new and exciting ways to find stem cells if it means we pull our focus away from embryonic stem cells!!

I know it has been a while since I have updated you on our progress using the Thumbuster for our thumb sucking drama! I was reminded last Sunday that I hadn't
updated anyone so here goes!!
The thumbuster has been retired. In the beginning, we were very excited about it. It really worked wonders. She willfully wore it everywhere. It was the reminder that she needed.
pros:
Cute pink color
breathable
fits all thumb sizes
Lycra material
washable
cons:
attaches by velcro (easy to remove)
velcro became worn and wouldn't attach
if it got wet, she wouldn't wear it
I would not suggest this item for anyone who has a child that can take it off by themselves and can't be bribed to keep it on. The child HAS to want to use it. We may try and replace the velcro so she can wear it again. She wore it everywhere all the time which accounts for the wear and tear on it! If a child only wore it at night, the wear would be minimal!
(we tried to pin it together, but the pin got annoying!)
When she wore it, it was a miracle. When it is off, her thumb is right back where it was.
It was a very small investment for us , and was worth the try! I can't say it has failed, just set us back a bit due to the state it is currently in.
For now, it is back to the bandaids! She has been doing a great job and is trying really hard. Habits are hard to break no matter what they are.
We will continue to help her the best we can.

When I had my daughter 8 mo. ago, I was bound and determined to teach her sign language as a baby! I have two older children who I didn't teach sign language to. They had no speech delay or lack of IQ, but we spent many a mealtime and day with the ole "point" and "grunt" ! Drove me up the wall! I started to think, what if I could communicate with my baby and have a more productive and stress free experience?!

According to parentsite.com, research has shown that babies who sign are less frustrated since they have a way of expressing their wants and needs. Simply put, they cry less. Babies are born with a natural desire to communicate with their hands. They clap when they are happy! Rub their eyes when they are tired!!But even more amazingly, babies who are taught a few simple signs not only speak earlier than non-signers but have larger vocabularies and become better readers. It has to do with stimulating more synapses of the brain. Signing babies have IQ’s that are 10-12 points higher.

To sum it up, babies who sign…
Speak earlier than non-signers
Experience less frustration
Develop larger vocabularies
Become better readers
Have IQ’s that are at least 10-12 points higher

This information taken from parentsite.com

Here is a chart from signwithme.com to get you started!!

There starts my journey! We only have one word down right now. "MORE"! (that was the biggest source of crying at mealtime with my other two.) Of course each baby will have their own adaption of the sign until they can get it right. They will also use the same sign for everything until they can expand their vocabulary!! The next step we are working on, while refining "more", is "more, what?" "EAT" and "DRINK" is next! We are only going to concentrate on the basics for communication for now!

Walt Disney Company has started marketing their newest "theme" for 2009!!
"What will you celebrate?"

They are on an all out marketing mission to spread the world!
(my hubby has been apart of the design/concept phase of the marketing tour-- many hours away from home, so to make his time away more worth while, I might as well promote what he has been working on!)

So in celebrating your birthday, WDW is giving each person FREE admission to the park on their birthday! With proof of birth and ID, you will be admitted to either Disney World or Disney Land for a day of fun and Disney Magic!! You can even "schedule" your day online! They even have different options for those faithful Disney fans that have annual passes!!

Yes, this is marketing... yes, you won't go alone.

But, that is one less person you will have to pay for!! So if you are planning on going to the park anyway, plan to go on someone's birthday and get one less admission to pay for. If you have twins......bonus!! For more information and their FAQ go here.

I went to my CVS yesterday to do my usually weekly shopping. I didn't anticipate getting the box of Fla-vor-ice, but my family is addicted to them and they are ginormous!! There are 48 in the box and they are about a foot long and large in diameter! They were on-sale for $14.99! I figured, " I have the ECB so I will splurge today!" I got to the register and they rang up at $7.49!! BONUS!! Apparently these were considered "summer clearance" ! There is also a $5.00 ECB sticker on them. I didn't get the ECB's because I had reached my limit for that item. (check with your store before purchasing!)
Still, I was doing a CVS happy dance!!
I don't know if these is CVS wide, but I am loving my store right about now!!

I am in some serious denial that my boy turned 10 yesterday!! He had a great day!! It started with the breakfast of his choice, followed up by his gift from mom and dad. He then went to school where mom and baby sis joined him for lunch at school! After school we headed to Rain Forest Cafe for dinner with grandparents, uncle, and cousins!! (I have pics, but they are on my camera phone and I can't upload them yet.) Then we went back to our house for some ice cream cake! In his prayers that night he thanked God for a great birthday! That makes a mom's heart tingle!!

The biggest "growth" he has done this year is to say he doesn't want a party!! Can we sing, "HALLELUJAH!!" He is realizing that it isn't about quantity, but quality! He is choosing to spend the day with his best bud, CJ at the Science Center! So on Sunday, we will pack up the 5 of us and his buddy and spend the day at the Science Center for his birthday!! I am actually excited! No house to clean, no party to plan, no piles of toys that he doesn't need!! I will post about the Science Center on Sunday or shortly thereafter!!

My boy!!
(all my baby pics of him are in his scrapbooks, otherwise I would have posted some really cute and embarrassing ones!!)

I so remember the day I went to the hospital to have you! I was a young naive gal who thought she could take on the whole labor process. I went to Lamaze... I could handle it. The pitocin started and I was working it!! I am SheRA!! I am the MAN!! Not so fast... I thought Demerol would do the trick... nope.... I think I need a walking epidural........ nope....... a full epidural would be good now!! You came into the world and blessed my life so richly! My first born , my baby, my friend, my guy!! You are the most sensitive boy. I love your emotion, but sometimes we need to reign it in. You have a precious love for all God's creatures. I still love the hand-drawn sign " no killing of bugs, leave them in peace" that is posted on our back porch door!! You wear your emotion on your sleeve. That will come in handy when you marry and can show that emotion to you wife. I love you so very much!! I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for you and can't wait to take that journey with you!

Kisses!!

A friend once told me that my girl's hair resembled a baby monkey!! I have to say that I agree!! I think the cuteness factor applies to both!
The only time I can get her hair to stay down is when she is sweating!! As soon as it dries... poof!! From ear to ear it sticks straight up!! I love it!!

This week is the start of missions week at our church. To kick off the week, the Children's Ministry wrote, directed, and starred in a musical called "Speak"! It basically brought the message of Christ and our need for him to the forefront! It also focused on telling others about Him!! The kids did an amazing job. It was set in the school cafeteria after school. Most of the songs were "Casting Crowns" songs. I was moved!! The kids were all professional and spot on!

The first night, they did it for the youth of the church. They had no idea, but they were loaded up in the church van and driven around the block. When they came back, there was a red carpet, cheering fans, photo ops and videos taping going on!! They entered as if they were "stars"!! So neat that the youth would do that and embrace these little rising stars!!
They did 4 performances! My girl thinks that she is a full out actress now.
Oops, I think the word she used was "Rock Star"!! :o)
Great job guys!! ( here are some pics. The quality isn't great!)

Mom and dad got our little actress some flowers after her performance!!

A while ago I had posted about my cat Jingle and when enough was enough. Since then, she has deteriorated a lot more, and it has become apparent what we needed to do for her!! Today, enough became enough.
We had our precious Jingle humanely put to sleep to spare her any further deterioration or lack of dignity. Yes, I know she was an animal and a pet, but I have had her for 23 years. She has been my friend, my confidant, my comfort, and my travelin' buddy! This was indeed a VERY hard decision for us to make and one we didn't make lightly. The vet agreed with us and was super sensitive to us and to Jingle. She left with dignity and peace!
I will miss her greatly, but know she is grateful that I didn't let her get so bad that she would suffer! Thanks for all your input and comments on this subject.

Thank you Lord for such a great friend and an unforgettable journey!!

I am almost positive that you will get many posts about 9-11 today!! Yup, I am one of them. Do you remember where you were that day? I was in State College at my in-laws house drying my hair after a shower, when someone came in and said a plane just flew into the twin towers in New York. I dropped everything and tip toed quickly past my sleeping girl who was 4 mo. old at the time. I couldn't believe my eyes. We sat glued to the TV for hours. We then realized that Jack's oldest brother's wife was in New York on business. No one could get ahold of her until later. Finally his brother called and said, she was fine, but couldn't get out of town. I will never forget the sacrifices made and lives lost that day.

This day changed everything for our family!

My brother is now retired from the US Air Force. He was deployed to Kuwait during the start of the Iraq war. Oh, my... if you think we were glued to the TV on 9-11... the stories, the bombs, the air raid sirens, the casualties. Watching and waiting for some sort of call from my brother to say I am okay! Each time we got that call-- relief. Then 10 minutes later after hanging up, another story on CNN of another attack. This time the bombs were reaching Kuwait city. We waited for that call again.
This was him eating birthday cake we sent to him after his 1 year old's birthday party!

My brother was part of the crew that remained at the airport hangers to load and unload supplies coming in and going out. (At times he had to go out and do his shift protecting the ammunition bunkers... with a gun! Glad mom wasn't there!!) He loaded and unloaded, inventoried, inspected everything. Everything meant even the dead who had to be transported home to be buried by their loved one. This was incredibly hard for him to do. He of course had to make sure the DB (dead body) was "who" the tag said and make sure it was on the right inventory sheet to go to the right place. Yes, he had to inspect the bodies. I can't even imagine.

This is him cleaning the pallets that transported the DB's on to the hangers to be shipped. (Sorry the pics are so small, but I think you get the point!)

Like I said , he is now retired. Thank the Lord he is home and safe where he belongs. Whether or not you agree with our troops being over in the Middle East, Please support our troops! They are doing their job that they signed up for and that they believe in. These men and women are giving up family, friends, and sometimes their own lives for the cause. Whether it is right or wrong, they are there! There isn't anything we can do about it. Let's just support them and PRAY them home!!!!!!!!!!

Do you remember where you were on the day that changed a nation?
Take a minute and click on the music player to the left and click on Letters from War, by Mark Shultz!! Remember!!
