If you are a teacher or a homeschooler, you'll want to check out Scholastic's Dollar Day Sale. There are over 400 items that are priced at--you guessed it!--$1. You do have to pay shipping and handling, but you can get up to 10 books for only $2.25 shipping and handling, so that would come out to less than $1.25 per book.
