Writes of Spring!

Each year the Orlando Repertory Theater in partnership with UCF does what is called the "Writes of Spring" In a nutshell... they pick a theme and then students all across Orlando submit essays, short stories, poems all with that theme. The production crew pick a select number of entries and write a screenplay around these entries. Then the UCF drama dept. puts on their production and invites all the students to come and see their words on stage! For more detailed information click here! It really is a great program!! Well, my girl got a letter stating that her essay had been selected and was worked into the screenplay! Boy was she excited!! She made me call right away to get tickets for EVERYONE! (they are free) So off we went last night to the show!!

The Theme this year was: If I could rule the world for one day, what would I do and why?

The show itself was called : Imagine a World

When you first show up they had the lobby full of artistic and drama related stations that the kids would do while waiting! Here is princess and Monkey playing the part they both know all too well!!
Then there was a huge tv that was running down all the winners! My girl got honorable mention! Her name is there for those of you who know her name! :o) We are talking these winners are out of hundreds of kids!! Pretty cool!

After the show, they had a cake and punch reception for the kids! SO fun!! The kids that submitted essays all got to wear a lanyard that said, "I AM A WRITER"!! They all felt so important!! Then kids who won got some cool gifts and the script from the show! That was my girl's favorite! She points to her page and says, "that is my part"!! "That is what I wrote!" BTW--- princess said if she ruled the world for one day, she would put up a sign that said, "stop cutting down trees!"
